Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about online therapy with me at Overcome Anxiety Psychological

You would start by booking a free, 15-minute online therapy consultation session with me.

You may do so by:

  1. clicking on the “Book your free online therapy consultation today” button above. This will take you to the Overcome Anxiety Psychological booking page.
  2. referring to this tutorial https://jane.app/guide/online-booking/booking-an-appointment-online-for-patients (as a new client, please choose the “Sign up” option).

During the consultation session, you will have the opportunity to go over your goals for online therapy, ask me your burning questions, obtain additional information about my therapy approach and policies, determine if we would be a good fit, troubleshoot any technological difficulties if they arise before you start your paid online therapy sessions and get a tailored plan with actionable steps to begin your journey to “getting unstuck”, right away!

I recommend that you read this entire FAQ section, as well as the “How we can help” page in order to prepare for our online therapy consultation.

You will receive a link an email from “Overcome Anxiety” with a ‘Begin your online appointment’ button to join our video call, 30 minutes prior to the start of the consultation session.

There will be important paperwork to be filled out before the free session, in order to maximize our time together during the online therapy consultation appointment.  You will find it under “My account” -> “Intake forms” in your client portal. Please let me know ahead of time if you are having trouble locating this paperwork, so I can help you complete it before we meet.

After we decide to work together in therapy, at the end of the 15-minute session, we will subsequently meet for the rest of process which will consist of:

    • a 3-hour assessment to help you tell your story and talk about your challenges before we come up with a treatment plan.
    • weekly or more frequent online therapy sessions to help you work through your challenges and acquire techniques that will work for you. This work will continue in between online therapy appointments as you will be assigned relevant  homework that will help you reach your goals faster.

I have observed that clients who do therapy homework report noticeable improvement, within 5 sessions or less!

At Overcome Anxiety Psychological, I strive to offer you the most effective online therapy experience possible. I therefore offer weekly 80-minute or longer sessions, in addition to the traditional 50-minute appointments so we can get meaningful work done at every appointment. I have found that professionals and executives who attend longer therapy appointments get results faster as long as they also complete homework, thereby reducing the overall time and financial investment in therapy!

Therefore, I will give you homework to complete weekly so you can take ownership of the process and get the outcomes you desire as fast as possible. Furthermore, I will gather your feedback and measure the level of your symptoms using a brief survey, at every session so that we can both be confident that our meetings are consistently helpful to you. Finally, we will collaborate on designing a unique personalized therapy treatment plan and finding the exact tools that will help you to recover promptly.

  1. Ensure you are in a quiet, private place, where you will feel comfortable discussing sensitive information and will be free from distractions and interruptions.
  2. Ensure you have a solid internet connection. Options for checking your internet speed may be found by typing “Check internet speed” on Google. It would be desirable to have a download speed of at least 15 Mbps. To improve your internet speed, consider connecting to the Ethernet rather than using wifi, closing unneeded programs and applications on your device, powering down any devices that use internet connection and are not in use at the time of your sessions and asking other people, with whom you share your internet service, to avoid engaging in activities that take up bandwidth, such as streaming videos, during your sessions.
  3. Use headphones to improve the sound quality of your sessions.
  4. Select a well-lit room.
  5. Position your camera so that your whole face is visible.
  6. Have a notepad and pen, or electronic device handy for note-taking
  7. Make sure your device is fully charged or that you have your charging cable with you.

I cannot ethically guarantee how long the therapy course will be. I have found that treatment typically takes between 12 and 24 weekly sessions, depending on different factors such the number of goals you wish to work on.

At Overcome Anxiety Psychological, an intensive online therapy option is offered where I will work with you for consecutive days in a row over a period of two weeks and for extended sessions, to help you reach your goals faster!

Data shows that with T.E.A.M-CBT clients who engage in active work usually experience measurable improvement within 5 meetings or less.

The more you invest in the process, the more you will get out of it. Active work involves attending weekly therapy appointments, completing therapy homework in between your sessions, such as going through prescribed podcast episodes, book excerpts and articles, and practising the skills you will learn in-session.

In my experience, professionals and executives who see rapid improvement are the ones who commit to weekly sessions and do homework. Because I want you and all my clients to feel better and achieve their goals as soon as possible, thereby reducing your overall time and financial investment in therapy, I only work with individuals who make a commitment to do their homework and attend weekly sessions.

The cancellation policy at Overcome Anxiety Psychological is that your sessions (except for your complimentary 15-minute session) have to be cancelled with 48 hours of notice, so as to avoid being charged the full session fee. I do not make exceptions so as to be fair to all my clients. You may cancel your session directly in your client portal, or by email or phone.

No, I only provide therapy to individuals over the age of 18 at this time.

Your investment will be $220 per 50-minute session or $350 per 80-minute session. Longer sessions are available at the same rate.

I also offer an intensive therapy option where we will work with you for consecutive days in a row over a period of two weeks and for extended sessions, to help you reach your goals faster!

As services that are offered by a psychologist, my therapy sessions are covered by most insurance policies.

My fees may be claimed under tax deductible health care expenses on your income tax return.

Yes, studies show that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy!

It is through Overcome Anxiety Psychological; I offer my online services on a secure, encrypted, PIPEDA compliant platform called JaneApp.

I am only accepting clients for weekly therapy sessions at least, as I have observed that this is how my clients get the most effective results.

I do not direct-bill insurance companies. However, I will provide you with a receipt after every therapy session so may you be reimbursed by your insurance company. You will be charged the session fee on the credit card that you will provide when you enrol into treatment.

I am fluent in French and Mauritian Creole, in addition to English, and can offer therapy services in these additional languages. However, since the T.E.A.M-CBT approach and many of the techniques that I use are cutting-edge, material that we will use in-session to do therapy work and that I will prescribe to you for homework, is mainly available in English at this time.

My goal is to help you not need therapy as soon as possible; my shortest sessions are 50 minutes in duration, however, I have observed that there are more breakthroughs and faster progress when appointments are longer (that is, at least 80 minutes in duration) and that this helps reduce the overall therapy course duration (and cost) significantly. Therefore, I highly recommend longer sessions.

I am a Psychologist in Edmonton, Alberta, on the traditional lands referred to Treaty 6 Territory and the homeland of Metis Region #4, and home to many diverse groups of Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Inuit, and Métis. Since I provide online therapy services to professionals and executives residing in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec, my clients live on various other traditional lands across Canada.
