Why professionals and executives love online counselling

  • Research shows that online counselling is as effective as in-person therapy.
  • At Overcome Anxiety Psychological, online counselling is safe; we offer our online services on a secure, encrypted, PIPEDA compliant platform called JaneApp.
  •  Professionals and executives like you can join me for appointments from the comfort of their home and the privacy of their office, without having to commute.
  • Professionals and executives value not having to sit in a waiting room with other clients, hence having more control over their privacy about accessing therapy.
  • Therapy is more pleasant when you can do sessions in your pyjama pants!

The professionals and executives I have had the privilege of helping

report that they felt extremely satisfied with the level of

empathy, warmth, trust and connection they felt

in spite of only meeting me during our online counselling sessions.

Online counselling using evidence-based practice

I provide online counselling using the T.E.A.M-CBT approach. T.E.A.M-CBT is rooted in evidence-based practice and I chose to certify in this approach because I experienced its powerful effects firsthand when I finally found a therapist who was able to help.

T.E.A.M-CBT was created by Dr. David Burns, Adjunct Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

T.E.A.M-CBT may be viewed as an advanced  version of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral therapy) which is listed by the American Psychological Association, as the therapeutic treatment of choice for most mental heath issues.

The acronym T.E.A.M stands for Testing, Empathy, Agenda Setting, and Methods and each component is uniquely important.

The T.E.A.M-CBT approach is considered evidence-based practice as the significance of the different components of T.E.A.M-CBT is supported by research in the fields of Behavioral science, Psychiatry and Psychology.

In fact, famed neuroscientist, Dr. Mark Noble, from the University of Rochester, refers to T.E.A.M-CBT as “The New Micro-neurosurgery“.

  1. Progressing towards your goal(s) with each and every appointment, is what I strive to help you with, and I wish to make sure that I am supporting you appropriately.

For this reason, I consider the first component of T.E.A.M-CBT, “Testing” (T in T.E.A.M), to be a necessary component of successful therapy.

In fact, I will listen about your current and past experiences, including any traumatic experiences related to components of your identities, such as instances of micro-aggressions and discrimination as well as explore the components of your identities that are important to you

Also, I will ask you to fill out a short survey before every session, so we can measure the intensity of different feelings, before you meet with me.

You will complete a similar survey after our meetings to rate the above-mentioned dimensions again, so as to verify that the sessions helped get you closer to your objective(s).

The survey that you will complete after your sessions will also allow you to evaluate me; you will be able to tell me how empathic and helpful I was, how much I was attentive to your unique needs based on your identity and you will indicate your degree of satisfaction with respect to the sessions.

While this may feel nerve racking (I was there!), you will see that this is invaluable in helping me work with you to make sure I am consistently offering you the best, most effective and helpful services, but may also lead to therapeutic breakthroughs that will further accelerate your progress.

Your feelings and experiences are very important to me, so much so that I do not believe I can help you effectively if I do not truly see, hear and understand you; I place a high value on “Empathy” (E in T.E.A.M) which is another crucial ingredient in T.E.A.M-CBT and strive for perfect empathy scores on your part at every meeting.

Furthermore, I will discuss any empathy score which is less than perfect with you, so I understand your experience and can course-correct.

The “Assessment of Motivation” (A in T.E.A.M) part of T.E.A.M-CBT will help me deeply understand your goals, identify the factors that have been contributing to and maintaining your challenges, and increase your motivation.

In the “Methods” part (M in T.E.A.M), I will draw from over 100 techniques and tools with a strong preference for well researched, evidence-based methods, so as to help you find the one(s) that will be most effective in helping you overcome your challenges.

Why so many techniques and tools? Because you are unique and what will work well for someone else, may not be as beneficial to you.

For instance:

  • We will spend time exploring various components of your identity that you consider important ;
  • I will assess you for racial trauma, we will talk about how it has  potentially been playing a role in affecting your mental health and we will used evidence-based techniques to help you overcome it as needed.

If this is something that you would like,

I would be pleased to infuse elements of Islamic counselling at every level of the process.

If you are a professional or executive and feel that my approach may work for you

I am currently able to provide online counselling to professionals and executives in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Your investment in yourself

If you choose to work with me, your investment in yourself will be as follows:

50-minute weekly therapy session

$220

80-minute weekly therapy session

$350

(longer sessions are available at the same rate)

Choice of session duration: I have recently been recommending sessions of 80 minutes or more as they allow for longer continuous work and more breakthroughs which I have noticed leads to a reduction in the length (and the cost) of the treatment course; I aim to help my clients be out of therapy as soon as possible!

I also offer an intensive therapy option where I will work with you for consecutive days in a row over a period of two weeks and for extended sessions, to help you reach your goals faster!

Insurance coverage and taxes: As services that are offered by a psychologist, my session fees are covered by most insurance policies. You may contact your insurance company to determine how much coverage you have.

Fees may be claimed under tax deductible health care expenses on your income tax return.

Unfortunately, I do not have capacity for direct-billing or sliding scales.

You know this: just like with everything, what you get out of therapy is a reflection of the work you put in.

You deserve to invest in yourself!

Overall therapy duration: I have found that treatment typically takes between 12 and 24 weekly 50-minute sessions, depending on different factors such the number of goals you wish to work on.

Homework: Data shows that with T.E.A.M-CBT, clients who do assigned homework in between sessions, usually experience measurable improvement within 5 meetings or less.
