Islamic counselling for Muslim women in Edmonton
Specialized support from a warm and seasoned Muslim Registered Psychologist
On the outside, it may seem like you’re managing well, but inside, you’ve been struggling with anxiety, sadness, guilt, and emotional exhaustion for a long time.
The coping strategies and distractions that once helped no longer seem enough, and it’s becoming harder to focus, function, and keep up with the many roles and responsibilities you carry for others.
You recognize that past wounds and difficult patterns are affecting your well-being, and deep down, you know that healing requires more than just awareness.
You’re tired of pretending you’re okay and simply want to feel peaceful and happy, through counselling that is halal and rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah! I understand how heavy that can feel, and I’m so happy you’re here!
I am Audrey Kodye, a Registered Psychologist who provides Islamic counselling for women in Edmonton and who has been in this field for 13 years.
I want you to know that you’re not the only Muslim woman in Edmonton who has been struggling, and that calm and joy are within reach, insha’Allah
Edmonton has a large Muslim community that is diverse and visible. While being surrounded by members of our community is comforting, it can feel daunting to access mental health services as a result of the stigma that surrounds this aspect of our existence which is yet very real and important.
For this reason, my private practice, Overcome Anxiety Psychological, which is based in West Edmonton, is entirely online. Sessions are completely confidential and offered through secure video calls, making them accessible from the comfort and privacy of your home. Whether you live in central Edmonton, the south side, or surrounding Alberta communities, online counselling allows you to access islamic counselling in a way that is flexible and convenient, because let’s face it; tackling traffic in downtown Edmonton, or navigating the Henday, Yellowhead or Whitemud to get to and from your counselling appointment, is the last thing you need.
As a revert to Islam of 11 years, Alhamdulillah, and a woman of Mauritian descent, I also sit outside traditionally Muslim community groups which will add another layer of privacy to our work together, while I am able to understand cultural complexities which are reflected in the society I was brought up in.
As a francophone Muslim woman who has lived and been to university in France, and has resided, studied and worked in French Canadian communities, I am also uniquely positioned to offer culturally responsive islamic counselling in French.
I am trained in Islamic psychlogy and therapy, and several methods that are considered the gold standard of treatments by the American Psychological Association. My approach therefore combines evidence-based psychological care, minus the elements that contradict the Qur’an and Sunnah, with Islamic teachings. I am committed to creating a space where you can feel understood, supported, and comfortable being yourself without needing to explain the beliefs we hold as Muslimahs.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you have been carrying things alone for a long time. Reaching out for support will insha’Allah be the beginning of meaningful healing and lasting change.
If you have been searching for a “Muslim counsellor near me” with a deeply empathetic and effective approach that fully aligns with Islam, I am here to support you, insha’Allah.
